Hot Wings

As I mentioned on my Salsa! post, I would like to put a couple of my favorite recipes on my blog. I love to cook, and I really love spicy food. No wonder I love hot wings, right?!?

Hot Wings

Ingredients:
1 cup of Franks Red Hot Cayenne Pepper Sauce
2 tbsp. of Butter
2 packages of chicken drummetes
Salt
Pepper

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 500 degrees.

2. Put wings on a baking sheet. (Tip: Wrap the top of baking sheet with tin foil. This will stop the grease from the chicken from making a mess on the sheet.)Sprinkle chicken with salt and pepper to taste. Put the wings in the oven when the oven is properly heated.

3. Cook wings for 30-45 minutes. Make sure that you insert a thermometer into the chicken to ensure the meat is cooked thoroughly.

4. About 5 minutes before the chicken comes out of the oven, microwave 2 tbsp. of butter until it is completely melted. (About 30-60 seconds)

5. Pour one cup of Franks into a large bowl. Pour in butter, and mix until the butter is well Incorporated into mixture.

6. Remove wings from oven when the meat is cooked through. Dunk the wings into the bowl of wing sauce and put onto a serving dish.

7. Enjoy!

I especially love eating these wings while watching a movie! If you or a family member is not crazy about spicy food (my sister!) then simply coat the wings with BBQ sauce, or any other sauce that they enjoy!
Serve with celery and/or ranch for all the wimps you know!

Hook, Line, and Sinker.

I was checking my email on yahoo.com and realized how often I fall for their little traps. For example, I was looking at the home page, and I find the following:
PS Click on the picture to see a larger image!

I saw the headline in the middle of the page: "Most album downloads ever". If you are like me, then you probably want to know. And what is funny is that every time that I get on yahoo.com to check my mail, I can't help but click on the headlines. Also, if you look closely, you see that they don't tell you what band has the most downloads in the little captions, so you HAVE to click it. Curiosity kills the cat!

The Big 50

It's official: Jordan's River is 50 posts old!

It has been a fun 50 posts, and I can't wait to see how much this blog will change over the years- Jordan's River will be one year old on September 19th!

But back to the big 50! To celebrate, I figured I'd throw a crazy video on this post!

I'm 50! 50 Years Old!

My HP Deskjet F4135 All-in-One

I love having a scanner.
It never occured to me that I could use the scanner for my blog until I checked out Gabe's Art blog. (A link to it on the right panel.)

Anywho... I decided that I should scan some of my artwork. I am not too good (at least compared to Gabe), but I enjoy drawing, and I thought that this piece in particular came out really nicely.

I call it: Seven Variously Colored Balloons!

Look forward to other posts with my artwork!

Check Out Some Awesome Blogs

You may notice that I have been renovating my blog. I try to keep it simple and easy to navigate, while at the same time keeping it cool-looking.

So, anyways, you might want to check out a few blogs that I like to visit every once in a while. On the right side of the blog, you will see a new feature: a little box called "My Blog List".

In it are a few blogs that I enjoy. I especially like my uncle's blog, The Carantit Chronicles. I believe I've referenced it a few times, but if not, here you go, Ty, free publicity!

To make your life particularly easy, here is a link to his blog: http://carantit.blogspot.com/

PS
Look forward to the Jordan River's 50th post. It will be fun!

Salsa!

I love Mexican food! It is spicy, tasty, and flavorful. About two nights a week, my mother and I make our homemade salsa. I thought I would share the recipe on the blog:

Salsa Recipe

Ingredients:
2 Jalapenos
1/2 cup of cilantro
2 cups of diced canned tomatoes
3 tablespoons of red wine vinegar
1/2 of a yellow sweet onion
2 tablespoons salt
2 tablespoons pepper
1/8 cup of Salsa Brava (optional)
2 cloves garlic
Any tortilla chips you like

1) Dice jalapenos, onion, and garlic. Chop cilantro. Put into a food processor and add salt and pepper. Pulse the food processor until the mixture looks fine.

2)Add tomato, vinegar, and Salsa Brava. Again, pulse the food processor until the mixture looks fine. (You can leave the salsa more chunky or fine based on your preferences.)

3) Put in serving bowl and enjoy with tortilla chips, or whatever dish you would like!

I hope that you like the recipe, and I think I will be putting so more of these on the blog! Please comment on how you liked it, or if you changed the recipe!

Snake

My new blogging obsession is embedding. There is just so much to embed, and it is so easy. I love this game. My best score is a nine on special, but I can get like twenty on easy. Enjoy!

Saturday Night Live- Again?

I just learned how to do this nifty little thing called embedding. Wow! A big step in my journey as a blogger, huh? Anyway, although we didn't get more cowbell (hehe) we did get more laser cats when Christopher Walkens hosted SNL on April 5. I wish that I could have found a video of the Greased Lightning sketch that they did, but I couldn't... So I got the next best thing...Plus a few more videos that I think are hilarious:

House

Right now, House MD is my favorite show on TV. It is funny, it is fast paced, and I am really interested in medicine. I don't really care that the each episode follows the same story line:

1. A person gets really sick

2. House (the main character who is a doctor) makes fun of the patient and/or his co workers

3. The patient gets more sick in the hospital

4. House and his team finds a simple diagnosis for the patient

5. House treats the patient

6. The patient gets worse

7. House and his team act shocked

8. House makes fun of the patient and/or his co workers

9. House talks to Wilson (a fellow doctor) or makes fun of Cutey (his boss)

10. House pops ten Vicodin

11. We get a glimpse of House's sad personal life

12. Back to the patient already!!!!

13. House and his team come up with a diagnosis that couldn't be wrong

14. Guess what? the diagnosis was wrong

15. House has a breakthrough moment when he sees a giant metaphor of his patient, runs up to the hospital ward where his patient resides, does something most would find utterly insane, and the patient lives.

16. House makes fun of his patient and/or co workers.

I LOVE this show anyways. The humor and the medical content keeps me coming back every week. Plus, they have played a ton of reruns on Fox for the past couple of months (the writers strike prevented them from creating new shows), so I caught up on episodes that I missed. But, House returns with new episodes in April. Yeah!

Saturday Night is Live from New York

Thank goddness. As Stephen so kindly pointed out on Down with the Tubes, the writters strike is over. It costed Los Angeles hundreds of millions without any new television, but, the pain is over. The writers are done whining, and this Saturday, February 23rd is the first new SNL since the strike. Tina Fey is hosting with musical guest Carrie Underwood. (ugh) Make sure you all tune in so the ratings go up that much more! Yeah!!!!!

King of Pong

I love Ping Pong. I love slam shots, curve shots, and low serves. I love playing it with my family and friends and I like testing their abilities.

It was especially interesting when I went to Maine. Since Mainers (or Mainahs) are snowed in for the winter, they have to find things to do inside that are fun, entertaining, and get you moving. Seemingly every house I was at had a Ping Pong table. I had to learn fast. But eventually I could beat my dad (still not a huge accomplishment). So, my awesome uncle got onto http://craigslist.com and got me a ping pong table for forty bucks! I was going to build one since that is a fraction of the cost to buy a new one, but since my uncle would be thoroughly involved in that process, he wanted a few weeks to get one for me on craigslist.

Now, I am going to my basement to play a round against my mom, but I have to try easy.
Here are some links to some awesome Ping Pong videos. The pros are crazy good!

Super Bummer

Dang! My favorite team, the New England Patriots lost in a close game to the New York Giants on Sunday. I am kind of tied to the Patriots because my parents are from NE. I am sad, but the
Giants were the better team in the end. There's always next year...
Anyways, g2g, I need to do some homework...
:(

Say Cheese!

In the words of Jordan G. "Why do we pay people money to inflict pain on us?"

No idea. We have this huge social pressure that if our teeth aren't white and straight, then we are unpopular, poor, and unattractive.

They hurt. You can't take them off. You can't eat your favorite foods. And the orthodontist I have cuts my gums on a regular basis.

Whine about them here!

Out Cold

It's the time of year to catch something nasty, go home, and seemingly die. I got my dose of a virus on Tuesday and have been out of school Wed. Thurs. and Fri. It sucked. Some people like missing school. Not me. i have a ton of makeup work, plus it's not like I had fun. I've been stuffed up, had a 101-102 fever and on top of it all, my braces were recently tightened, so it is hard to eat. FUN. Boat loads of it.

A MAD CAULDRON OF FUN

The best part of being published in MAD (aside from getting recognized by millions of readers in a both nationally and internationally published magazine) is the reward that comes with it. Recently, MAD decided "if you were lucky enough to get your letter published" that you get some sort of prize. (Usually they have something to do with what's hot- when the Simpson's Movie was released, that was the prize for that month). I was lucky enough to score Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix DVD, DVD interactive game, and Wii game. I also got a Harry Potter Day calander. I also got a book entitled The Demonata Blood Beast by Darren Shan. (wierd, probably not going to read it)
Anyways I got this bundle of free stuff in the mail yesterday addressed to Jordan Hull.

A Resolution

I checked my email this morning, and I opened one from a friend (who comments on this blog regularly) and she asked me what my new year's resolution was. I realized that I hadn't made one! I want to make mine here on the blog, and I want to be held to it by 2009. If you want to do the same, go ahead, and I will hold to yours in a year.
My resolution:To read 20 books outside of school, to get 6 POW's correct in geometry (Problem of the Week, and I am required to get 5 correct, something that I barely pulled off last semester), and to run a 5K in under 24 minutes.

Goodbye '07

2007 has been a great year and a terrible year, and one can say that about any year, so I suppose that 2007 is just another year. For me, 2007 was better then last, but not my best, either. So, I guess 2007 was another year for me, too.
I finally got out of my old school that I had been in for nine years. The last months of school there was painfully boring, and I couldn't wait to go to my high school that I had been excepted into.

My new school is wonderful, I have found a new love-running, and I have passed the semester with 2 B's and the rest A's in all honors classes.
I got to go to Maine for the first time in four and a half years. Amazing.

Sitting here on the last day of 2007, I think that I can be happy with what I have done this year. Happy new years, everybody, and I hope that you will enjoy the few hours left in this year. As always, comment on whatever you want.

Saturday Night Not So Live

I know that I wrote about the writer's strike about a month ago, and guess what? I'm going to write about it again! I would like to thank...

David Letterman
Jay Leno
Jimmy Kimmel
Conan O Brian
American Idol
House

...these are then only exceptional shows that aren't going to play reruns until their stuck up overpaid writers get paid more!!!

Tis' the Season (for winter movies)

Premiering Christmas day! Great idea, let's all book down to our movie theater on Christmas to see a movie about a water creature (a sad imitation of Eragon) that grows up-just like in Eragon-in the hands of a young boy. Or maybe a movie about the last man on Earth after a virus causes the human race to go extinct...or does it? Nope. The picture says it all(I saw I Am Legend today). All in all, the winter movies this year was terrible-like getting clothes on Christmas.

MAD FOR MAD-I'M FAMOUS

As I said earlier in my blog, I LOVE MAD Magazine. I wrote them a letter in early September, and hoped I would get published in the Letter and Tomatoes Department. Once the next issue came out, I skanned for my name. No luck. By November, I had stopped expecting my name. One night in early December I opened my mailbox and found a MAD(Number 485). Thank God, I needed some new mad things to read! In bed that night, I skimmed though the Letters and Tomatoes Department and read some interesting letters. I flipped the page, and there it was!!!!! My letter was sitting there on the page. I nearly passed out. I read the letter, and saw Ed's (the editor of MAD) witty response. I was filled with joy, even though my name was mispelled as Jordan Hull rather than Hall. When one gets published in MAD they also win a few things, and I got harry Potter 5 the movie, video game for the Wii, and interactive DVD. What a great Christmas present, MAD! I expect everybody to buy a copy!

Down the Tubes

God help us, TV is finally headed down the tubes(pun intended) due to the writer's strike. Seemingly every show on television is calling it quits. Basically, the writers of various TV shows are refusing to write shows until they get a raise. What this means for us is the demise of shows like Jimmy Kimmel, David Letterman, the Colbert Report, SNL, The Office, Scrubs, ER, and 30 Rock to name a few. This may seem like such a big deal now, and I don't deny that it is, but I find the outcome predictable. TV is such a big market that the powers that be will eventually give into this strike. They may be able to scrape by a couple more weeks showing re-runs, but the business will eventually die out until new shows air. But it looks like we have to put up with some dreadful TV for a while.

Colorful Personalities

What's your favorite color? You here this questions at anything from preschool to formal icebreakers. I recently saw this question posted on a friend's blog as a sort of ice breaker for his readers, but I realized that you can tell a lot about a person by their favorite color. People never seem to take questions seriously these days, so here's a way to find out about yourself and others with this question. One can even tell what kind of attitudes they will have an all sorts of things like that. I have a link to a site where you can click on your favorite color and get instant feedback. And if you haven't realized already, my favorite color is blue! N Joy!

November

Well November is upon us and it is my duty to let everybody know what I think about it.

For me November brings:

Fall Back (you gained an hour of sleep Saturday Night)

My Uncle's Brithday

The begginning of winter running

An excuse to pig out on turkey- THANKSGIVING

I'm in full swing football mode with the world series over

Finally teachers aren't afraid to give out normal amounts of homework. (a ton)

I get my mind into thinking about 2008, Christams, and things like that

The weather will still be nice for about two more months

Tell me what November is like for you!

Mad for Mad

Anybody that knows me well knows that I'm not a huge reader. A couple novels here and there, but that's really it. But that isn't the case ever since a friend introduced me to MAD last December. I promptly ordered a year's subscription to MAD, and regularly buy MAD classics(a collection of MAD from the old-days). I love MAD so much, and anybody with a sense of humor would, too. Here's a link to MAD's mad site!

Also, on the right is a sample of one of MAD's famous covers that always features a fictional character that emerged in the 20's known as Alfred E. Nueman.
MAD also has a late night TV show on FOX 31 at 10:30pm on Saturday nights. And-shockingly-it's called MAD TV.
Here's a link to MAD TV's site
I'm MAD for MAD!!!

You Tube

Videos are the most modern way of getting information.
Screw dat!!!!
Videos are the coolest thing since-well-TV. And thank God, we can watch them on the computer for free. Whether you want to watch some guy rant about how great Brittney Spears is, or your favorite band live in concert, videos on U-Tube have been a huge hit in internet culture. Some of my favorite videos are:
http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=foo+fighters+snl (a bunch of live performances by the foo fighters- the best SNL musical guest)

http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=SNL ( bunch of great SNL sketches)

http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=leave+britney+alone&so=0 ( this freak that must love Britney-watch out, though, i couldn't find an edited version!

Anyways, GO YOU TUBE!

It's Too Cold for Snake Season!!!

They're the hottest team in baseball. They have won 21 of their last 22 games. When the Rockies realized what they would have to do to extend their season past the regular season, it seemed to be the impossible. Each player knew that they had to pretty much win every game since mid-September in order to get into a three way tie just to get a wildcard spot. It seemed like a long shot for a team that disappoints Colorado on a yearly basis. The impossible has happened. The Rockies have sweeped their past two playoff matches against the Philies and Diamond Backs respectively. They have gained a spot in the World Series for the first time in franchise History-which started in 1993.

They will face either the brilliant Red Sox or the hot Indians in the world series. The Rockies may have their work cut out for them, but they are seemingly undefeatable at this point. of caorse I'd be rooting for the Bo-Sox at this point, but my native ties to Colorado have won over. GO ROCKIES!!!!

Race for the Cure II

Although I had expected to do well at race for the cure, my knee was hurting pretty bad, and I was at the back of the pack when we sarted and there are so many people that you end up walking the first half mile. I ended up with a time of 31.05, but I am still happy because a. i saw a bunch of my friends there and ran with them b. it's not about me, so I did it for a good cause c.whatever! it doesn't go in the cross country books, so it's not like I'm tatooed with that time d. i had a blast I would like to encourage anybody who has two hours on a sunday morning and 20 bucks to participate in race for the cure-and you don't have to be an amazing runner like me-there are family runs, a women's race, and a walk.

Saturday, October 6, 2007

Race for the Cure

Last year I could only walk at Race for the Cure, but this year I'm RUNNING! (see older Cross Country blog for details) I hope that I will be able to perform well considering that I ran only yesterday, but it's not really about how I do, but it's about the cause. I hope to have some pictures to put on the blog later-so look for some updates!

Halloween

It's that time of year agian-bust out your pumkin carvers and the age old recipe for roasted pumkin seeds 'cus it's HALLOWEEN. I love Halloween. I like the summer slowly changing to fall. I like decorating the house. But most of all, I like the candy! But I've hit a snag. I'm 14. Am I too old to put on the nasty rubber face mask and grab my pillow case and get 3 months worth of candy? What do you guys think? Am I way too old, or can I pull it off another year?

Cell Phones

We can hardly live without them anymore-for me the age was 14. Some kids are getting them at 10 or 11. Times are a'changin'. if you don't know wht the heck I'm talking about look at the title every once in a while!!! Cell phones! Texting, picture message, video message, sound message, all the music you could want, and-oh yeah-calling all in a box smaller than your fist. It really is amazing when you take a step back and look at it.

I don't know how i could do without one. I couldn't find my Mom when she picks me up from school, couldn't check in on friends, and I don't know what I would do in an emergency.

Cell phones describe their owners. For example- to all three of you who read my blog-

Ty(my uncle) his phone can surf the web, text, and keep him up to date-just what he needs.

Gabe-your old phone was a peice of crap (not to say anything about you lol) but his new one is simple, sleek, and gets the job done- so gabe

Jordan g.-a new double-flip phone with all the latest features-cool and hip like her!

Me: a chocalte with all the music you could imagine (although i'm too lazy to put any on!), the latest in "cool phones"- flippin awesome-just like me.

So really, my big point is that when you take a step back from our modern lives we really see what all of us are comprised of.

Sorry i gotta go. My phone is ringing.

CROSS COUNTRY

Well, I tried baseball, football, basketball, golf, tennis, gymnastics, biking club, soccer, and finally resorted to my new great love: RUNNING. I was the kid who dreaded the beginning of practice where you run in a minotinous route around the park that you practice in. I breathed heavy and ran slow. Not anymore! Last Friday i finished a 5k (3.1 miles) in 26 minutes an 4 seconds- a new PR(Personal record). I love the sport, the friends I've made, and the passion I now have. Running is my thing! Above is me at the 100 meter to go mark, finishing my PR of 26.04.

Sleepy Time

I love the weekend! Although I am not get to sleep in like I used to (I'm up at 5 am on a normal weekday and am up at 7 am every Sunday) I can still usually get a good night's sleep on Friday night. I love sleeping in! My weekends are busy now days, but I still love my saturday mornings!

SNACKS and BAD TIME MANAGEMENT

Off hours are the best thig since the invention of the Television! First off, if you have homework, you can get it done and not have homework that night. But of course, why the heck would you be a good student EVERY day?!? ME and ten other people walked to King Soopers, bought a million snacks, and feasted at the cafeteria. AMAZING! TGIOH(thank god it's an off hour)!!!!!!

Walking at Night

They say night is just a dark day-and it is-TECHNICALLY! I went to go get the mail and it was real dark out, and there was a full moon with a slight wind blowing, and I got the biggest case of the chills I've ever experienced. Gosh, maybe it's the time of year-I don't know, but it's freaky. The dark never gets to me, but tonight was bizzarre- just like what murder scenes are like in the movies.BRR.

HBU? Are you scarred of the dark or tough as nails?

Guy is Tased!!!

Basically, at Florida University there was a guy tasered by police because of resisting arrest-for a reason that he thought was unfair. He was at a Question and Answer seminar with John Kerry. Apparently, the man asked John Kerry some questions that were "inappropriate" and the police arrested him. the man resisted arrest and was tasered. I have the link to the video right here-but I'm going to seriously warn you that it is pretty graphic and if you don't like watching violent films, this one isn't for you.

TV Premere Week

With a whole new batch of television goodness fresh out of the oven, I'm only excited about a few shows:my three favorites: House and the Office and of coarse, SNL. But what would fall be without testing out a new show: for me- K-ville. It's about a couple of New Orleans cops. It is nothing short of intriguing. they might have baited me with the pilot- let's see if they can reel me in! HBU? what are your favorite shows? what shows are you going to test?

PLC Days

So I was busy doing my homework this afternoon when it hit me-tommorow is a PLC day! Duh! (A PLC day is basically a day when classes start 2 hours late because of teacher meetings.) Since I arrive at the same time as a normal day, I have two hours to do any homework that I need to take care of. So tonight will be fun, fun, fun, fun, fun untill my daddy takes my T-Bird away!(and a night chalked full fo SIMPSONS!)

School is Starting

ugh. School is just getting started again. Nine months of torture-coming right up!

Homework is already heavy during the week and is insane over the weekend. It's cool, though since I'm a freshman in high school, so things are a lot different, but school is school, an dhomewrok is homework, and boring is boring! So anyways, what's up with you and your school. Are you still excited and ready for the year or are you already onging for summer break?

Knowing my Peeps

Alright everybody. since I'm new to blogging, I want to know who you are! Tell me a few things about yourself. Are you into music, writing, art, cooking, computers, or anything else. What's your favorite color? Where do you live?

I play guitar, like to cook, and hate Mondays. My favorite colors are blue and green, and I live in Colorado. I like hangin' with friends and watching the Simpsons!

Hi everybody, this is my new blog! Yeah! Anyways, anyone should feel free to say anything, just keep it clean, my peeps.
